Description:
Fairly large with long tail noisy bird, predominantly yellowish green appearance. Green head and blue-green tip to tail. Male has black chin stripe joining pink hind collar. Female lacks the chin stripe and collar, and is all green (with indistinct pale green collar).
Distribution:
Introduced resident in the main urban areas of Gilgit and Diamer district. Chiefly found deciduous habitats ranging from semi-desert to light secondary jungle, mainly in lowlands and in gardens and plantations around habitation, rarely above 1600m.
Behavior:
Forages usually in small flocks, although large flocks occur at rich food sources or roosts. Typically on tree tops with fruits and also in fields. Flight fast and direct. Regarded as a pest in agriculture, feeding in flocks on cereals, seeds and fruit crops. Fruits include figs, Ziziphus, guavas, dates, mangoes, plus cultivated seeds and nuts.
